What are the core principles of digital citizenship?

Our digital citizenship framework is built around five core principles:

  • Respect: Treating others with kindness and empathy online.
  • Responsibility: Taking ownership of one’s actions and digital footprint.
  • Privacy: Understanding the importance of safeguarding personal information.
  • Cybersecurity: Practicing safe online habits to protect against threats.
  • Critical Thinking: Evaluating information critically and discerning consumers of online content.

 

How do you teach us about digital citizenship as students?

At the beginning of school all our students complete an orientation course that covers etiquette, online expectations, and responsible communication.

Students participate in an annual Digital Citizenship Week, part of a global initiative, where they engage in focused activities and discussions around safe, ethical, and responsible digital behavior.

Throughout the year, teachers integrate digital citizenship lessons into online classrooms, and structured resources from Common Sense Education are embedded within our Homeroom and Counseling courses to support both students and parents.

 

How do you teach us about digital citizenship as parents?

We believe digital citizenship is strongest when it is a shared home school partnership.

Parents are supported through:

  • Live onboarding sessions at the start of the school year
  • Parent workshops and webinars on digital wellbeing, cyber safety, screen balance and emerging technologies
  • Regular newsletters and guidance resources
  • Communication during Digital Citizenship Week to encourage conversations at home
